3/24/2015
(Dothan, AL, March 2015) – Bruce Strickland, R.N. has been named 2014 Employee of the Year for Flowers Hospital. The recognition is the highest honor a hospital employee can receive.
Employees are nominated for the award by their colleagues based on their commitment to patient care, their professionalism and their contributions on the job. Bruce Strickland was chosen from among approximately 1,500 employees for this recognition.
“Each employee plays an important role in delivering quality care and creating the best possible experience for our patients,” said Dan Cumbie, Chief Nursing Officer. “Bruce Strickland exemplifies compassionate care on a daily basis. He strives every day to make a difference in his patients’ lives. It is a pleasure to recognize Bruce Strickland and his dedication to the Flowers Hospital team.”
Bruce Strickland has worked at Flowers Hospital since November, 2000. Originally Bruce served as a Respiratory Therapist for Breathing Care Associates, an owned entity of Flowers Hospital. In 2009, Bruce experienced a life-threating illness and was treated at Flowers Hospital. This was an eye opening experience for him, and gave him a deeper understanding of the importance of caring for our patients as family.
Bruce became fascinated with cardiovascular anatomy and returned to school to receive his R.N. degree. In 2012, he graduated as an R.N. and now divides his time between the CCU and CVICU at Flowers Hospital. In addition, his wife, Debbie, and he are raising three daughters. His oldest daughter has followed in his steps and is attending physical therapy school, the middle daughter has applied to nursing school, and the youngest is still in high school, but has aspirations of being an Oncologist.
“I chose to work in the health care industry so I could make a difference. It is a pleasure coming to work every day and interacting with my patients,” said Bruce Strickland, R.N. “I am completely humbled by this honor and appreciate the recognition from Flowers Hospital and my colleagues.”
