Sheila Chancey Receives Flowers Hospital Nursing Excellence Award
1/7/2022
Flowers Hospital is proud to announce Sheila Chancey, R.N., as the winner of its Nursing Excellence Award.
This peer-nominated award, given in recognition of the critical role nurses play in treating our patients, was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in direct patient care positions who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence.
Sheila received multiple nominations from her peers for her outstanding contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and for her leadership in the establishment and operation of the hospital’s monoclonal antibody infusion clinic. Sheila was described as a gracious and steady leader, a cheerleader to her co-workers, and a nurse who serves with patients, empathy, compassion, and humility. One co-worker stated, “Sheila has worked this past year to give to everyone, to love everyone, and to encourage and help bring healing to our community.”
“Flowers Hospital is fortunate to have many outstanding nurses like Sheila among its ranks. Nurses who deliver exemplary care, compassion and service, who understand the importance of teamwork and mentoring others, who can lead in times of crisis, and who are true champions of promoting healthcare in our community,” said Jeff Brannon, Flowers Hospital CEO. “With an ongoing focus this year on selfless efforts of healthcare professionals like Sheila, we are proud to acknowledge the important contributions of our nursing professionals.”
Sheila has been employed with Flowers Hospital for 37 years and worked in critical care units, cardiac care units, and outpatient surgery before joining the hospital’s Heart and Vascular Institute.
In addition to receiving the Nursing Excellence Award itself, Sheila received a cash prize and a copy of “Shining the Light on All the Right” by Mark and Bonnie Barnes, co-founders of The DAISY Foundation, an international movement created to recognize and express gratitude for extraordinary nursing.
