Amputation Prevention
Without medical treatment, chronic, non-healing wounds may lead to complications, such as acute pain, infection, loss of function or even amputation. The multidisciplinary team in the wound care center is dedicated to preventing amputation and providing advanced treatment options to promote wound healing and recovery for patients.
Many medical conditions may lead to non-healing wounds or amputation if left untreated, such as:
- Arterial insufficiency, a condition that slows or stops blood flow to your arteries
- Diabetes and diabetic arterial disease
- Non-healing surgical wounds
- Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
- Venous insufficiency, a condition when there is increased pressure inside your veins
Patients in the wound care center work with the experienced, multidisciplinary medical team to develop an individualized and targeted approach to wound healing and treatment. Patients have access to:
- Evaluations by a board-certified vascular surgeon, general surgeon and family medicine physician with experience in the healing and treating of complex wounds and amputation prevention
- Specially trained nurse practitioners and nurses for advanced wound care
- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a treatment that increases the amount of oxygen in the patient’s blood allowing the wound to heal from the inside out
